NEBRASKA SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION NSAA The Lakeview High School District is a member of the Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) which is a voluntary organization of public and parochial schools of Nebraska, organized for the purpose of promotion and regulating the competition between schools in what is generally known as the co-curricular activities. Lakeview High School is subject to and governed in part by the rules and regulations for co-curricular activities of the NSAA. These rules and regulations are available for inspection and review in the office of the school principal or athletic director. |
|
Each participant in extracurricular activities must meet the eligibility requirements on a weekly basis. A student is ineligible if he/she is failing two or more classes in one week. A student failing two classes in one week will not be eligible to participate in or miss class to attend extracurricular activities the following week. The ineligibility period will begin the next day (Tuesday) and will extend through the following Monday evening. Teachers will notify the office of all students who are failing or near failing in their classes by 8:00 a.m. on Monday |
|
In order to represent a high school in interscholastic competition, a student must abide by eligibility rules of the NSAA and Lakeview High School.
|
|
Practices for each organization team will be scheduled on a regular basis by the coach/sponsor in charge. Athletes will be informed of practice times and are expected to be at all practices. If a student is unable to attend a scheduled practice, the coach should be contacted in advance. Wednesday night is recognized as a church night by Lakeview High School. In an attempt to cooperate with various religious activities, all Wednesday afternoon practices at Lakeview High School will be completed by 6:30 p.m. |
|
The behavior of students involved in activities not only reflects their personal self-esteem but also the amount of pride they have in their school and activity. Students who participate in activities represent their school and are therefore required to adhere to standards which exceed those required of students who do not participate in activities. All students who wish to participate in activities at Lakeview High School will be required to conform to the following general rules.
Failure to follow these rules will result in disciplinary action. The penalty assigned by the sponsor/coach may vary depending upon the severity of the infraction. All students involved in activities at Lakeview High School are required to adhere to the following specific rules.
A school council composed of the following personnel will review alleged violations of these rules.
If alleged violation occurs, the council will notify the parents and student in writing within two school days of discovery of the alleged violation and establish a hearing date within three days of notification. If, as a result of the hearing, a majority of the council votes to impose a suspension, the following penalty will be enforced. First Offense: The penalty will be a thirty (30) calendar day suspension from the activity unless the student agrees to enroll in and meet with the school counselor or principal for four (4) consecutive weeks, in which case the suspension will be twenty (20) calendar days. Second Offense: Students will forfeit the privilege of participating in all activities for the remainder of that school year. Immediate suspension will be enforced if:
The parent and/or student has the right to appeal the immediate suspension. This appeal must be in writing addressed to the principal and filed within five days of the suspension. The matter will then be brought before the school council within five days of receiving the appeal. The council’s decision will be final. When a student is suspended or dismissed from an activity the following procedure will be followed.
An activity is defined to include all athletics and activities that take place outside of the classroom. When the determination is unclear, the principal will make the final decision. Athletic, speech/dram, and one-act play seasons will be defined according to the calendar set by the Nebraska School Activity Association. All other activities will be divided into a fall, winter, and spring season by using the dates set by the NSAA for the start of each season. While a student is suspended he/she must comply with the following regulations:
The sponsor/coach will determine if the student has met the above requirement during his/her suspension. If the student has successfully met the requirement, then he/she will be allowed to attempt to regain his/her position in the activity. If the student does not meet the above requirements, he/she will be subject to dismissal from the activity for the rest of the season. |

Members of school sponsored organization who travel on transportation arranged by the school to an event will be required to return home on the same transportation. Exceptions will be granted only if the parents make a written request the day prior to the event they wish to take their son/daughter with them following an away event. This request must be approved by the coach/sponsor after consultation with the athletic director. If approved, the parent must inform the coach/sponsor after the event that they are leaving with their son/daughter. Any emergencies or special situations must be approved by an administrator or head coach/sponsor. Under no circumstances should students be allowed to drive to and from activities. |
