FIRE DRILL PLAN

All instructors should follow their students out of the building and be sure they are standing at least 150 feet from the building.

  1. We are required by state law to hold an average of one fire drill each month.   They will be held without warning to the teachers or students.   However, physical education instructors may be notified.   All fire drills will be held during the first couple minutes of the period or last couple minutes if at all possible so that disruptions to instructional time can be held to a minimum.
  2. All teachers should appoint one student and one alternate near the door to hold the outside door.   Teachers should also appoint one or two students and an alternate to make sure that all windows are closed and the classroom door is closed after the students have cleared the room.   Appointment of monitors will be necessary in each of your classes.
  3. Teachers be sure students leave the building and room in single file, walking quickly, but not running.
  4. All faculty and staff must leave the building when the fire drill is sounded.
  5. All teachers will go over the above information with each of their classes.   They will point out the fire drill route posted near the door and impress upon the students the importance of quick, orderly evacuation of the building.
